Alfalfa Pellets

Post by Ajayb » Thu Oct 22, 2009 12:24 pm

Our KKs have begun cutting up the grass in our paddocks quite badly again so I'm limiting their time in there (a few hours a day) and keeping them in the woods, where the grass is more sparse.

I'm very aware of not over-feeding them and currently supplement their grazing with a large scoop of pot-bellied pig food mixed with carrots, apples, bananas etc, morning and evening.

I want to maintain their roughage intake, but they weren't very interested in hay in Feb/ March, so I wondered if it was OK to give them alfalfa pellets and, if so, how much? Apparently horses can have something called 'fibre cubes' but I'm even less sure they would be suitable for pigs!

(If all else fails, I presume lots of carrots would be the answer, as they are very low cal and full of fibre?)

not sure about alfalfa cubes but i cn't imagine there would be anything in them that would do the pigs any harm,

my pigs are picky about hay but they always have grass so i suppose thats why,
yes, carrots are good for them,
