Piglets and other pigs

Post by pedro1 » Sun Dec 04, 2011 3:04 pm

I am wondering that once I have removed the mum from the piglets how long do I have to keep the piglets separate from the mum and the other pigs on my farm before I can mix them all together from pedro

at least a week and probably longer. the mum needs to dry up completely. if you put them back again too soon he will come back into milk and you will have to wean again.
I would wait two weeks and be sure she has come into season as the hormonal changes will help prevent her from coming into milk again

Wendy's right, I let one particularly fed up litter piglets black out after 10 days one time, rushing it a bit from my usual 2 weeks... and they immediately went to suckle mum again. The extra few days has worked every time, so 2 weeks seems exactly right.
