Straw or woodshavings

I am having piglets born on boxing day and I have a heat lamp and everything like that but is straw or woodshavings better for the piglets and mum to go on the floor of the stable that she is giving birth in thanks for any help from pedro

definitely straw.
Woodshavings can be inhaled by piglets and can cause chest problems.

don't be tempted to give too much straw at the start. tiny piglets can get lost in it and get squashed. i usually give about half a small bale for the sow to nest and give birth in. then a couple of days after the birth start to add a little more each day.
