Someone with "5 pigs, one is a boar so I'd like her for breeding" is interested in buying my remaining 10.5 month old gilt left from Sep14 litter.
Is a there a rule of thumb for minimum age and/or height girth and/or length at which a gilt is big enough to breed from (I've no idea what she weighs as I don't have a scale). On that note (important also for figuring out dosing), is there an alternative way of estimating weight for kunekunes? Seems to me that the traditional breed formula (W=(HG2 * L)/400) might not work for the different shape of KKs.
Thanks! V

Re: Estimating weight and assessing age/size when gilt is bi
I agree that the traditional methods of estimating aren't great with kunekunes. Its difficult if you don't have scales, but trying to pick them up and guessing is as good a way as any.
I never put a gilt to a boar until its at least 12months old. They tend to have growth spurts around a year where they 'mature'. It can vary in timing so just judge to think if she looks old enough...
