breeding age of kunekune

Post by at2aw97 » Thu Sep 06, 2012 7:22 pm

I am new to pigs and recently bought 3 sows and a boar. the 1st sow had 4 piglets and doing good at 1 1/2 months old. the next sow had 6 2 weeks later but 2 died. The boar is in his own paddaock and plenty big for other pigs. the piglets already run loose and go in and get along with him. I am planning on keeping the piglets with the boar for a while. my question is about what age do kune's come into breeding age.

Most people don't put a gilt to a boar until its a least a year old. However a gilt can get in-pig at six months of age, and there are regular cases where the gilt is even younger.
I wouldn't leave a young gilt with a boar at all.
