Companions for breeding boar

Post by Ncik1402 » Tue Feb 09, 2021 2:19 pm

Hi all,

I have just acquired a full boar to rear and breed from. He is a new addition to my herd which consists of two older sows and a litter of 2 castrates and a gilt.

My question is can I keep the new little fella together with the castrates and keep the girls separate or does he need to be kept alone? They are all very sociable pigs but the older sows haven’t taken kindly to the new boar and he is often bullied away from the group.

Hi, your entire boar will live with your castrates perfectly and will be very glad of the company. Keep an eye on all their tusks as they grow, and keep them all trimmed.
