We butchered the first two of our 11 month piglets this weekend (first time ever)
both were castrates and weighed in at 39Kg and 37Kg live weight (23Kg/21Kg deadweight)
Just over an inch of back fat on each one so we're delighted! we look to have got it pretty much spot on with the feeding.
Especially since when we got the piglets at around 6 months old they were definitely a bit on the plump side
To be fair they did come from a public petting farm and although they have been fed the correct amount of pig food, I suspect they had also been getting fed crisps, Mars bars, ice cream and whatever else they could beg from the many public visitors to the farm
We did the entire process at home, culling, cleaning and butchering and a lot of mincing and processing.
A great experience and all ready to do the other four now, the two gilts are a good bit larger than the castrates so we'll leave them till last.
All aspects of raising and using kunekunes for meat.
