Food treats

Post by Diane » Sun Mar 02, 2008 9:57 pm

I have just got 2 kunekune/pot bellied crosses who are 8 weeks old and am keen to get them as tame as possible and comfortable around me and the family. I wondered, what treats are safe and legal to give to kunekune's. Any particular fruit or veggies, can you give bread, raisens etc.

Do your pigs get regular daily veggies/fruit and if so, what do you recommend? Thanks :)

avoid bread, it's not good for them and will make them fat.
if your mixing them with other animals don't let the sheep eat the pig food, its high in copper which is not good for sheep,

any veg is fine but not celery, parsnips, onions, garlic, leeks,
tomatoes can irritate/encourage arthritis
green or sprouting potatoes are toxic

Ours love any kind of fruit as a treat. Absolute favourite are pears.
