Coal True or false?

Post by biddydog » Fri Oct 10, 2014 5:49 pm

Talking about pigs rooting to a retired farmer (who used to keep a couple of pigs from time to time). He swears by giving the pigs a couple of pieces of coal in their pig pen. They eat/play with them and it gives them the additional minerals they crave. I've heard of it with pregnant women but never pigs!! Any ideas? True or folk legend?

Not something I've ever heard.

Is the coal eating supposed to stop them rooting?
