I though members might be interested to know of a substitute for grass in winter that I came across at the recommendation of a horse owner. Although my pigs are continuing to have pig nuts and veg/fruit twice a day, I've also started to give them a scoop of speedibeet which is dehydrated sugarbeet. You mix it with water and ten minutes later it has a porridge like consistency. As long as you don't make it too slushy they seem to really like it especially mixed with some apples and carrots. It's only a pound or two more than standard pig nuts and is a good source of carbohydrate especially useful when the weather turns colder.
