Re: Runner bean glut
I am interested in the response to this as I have fed runner beans to all my pigs including kunekune but have always felt slightly uneasy about quantity because somewhere in my brain I have this nagging doubt about too many of the red beans in the runner (if not cooked) being not too good for us. I am not sure if this is an old wives tale or fact.....anyone know for sure? I shall look it up now!
None of my pigs have ever been ill I hasten to add and I have never seen a warning in any pig book regarding feeding them

Re: Runner bean glut
From all that I can find it appears they are totally safe (although they may not be keen on them). There is mention of the tough outer case being indigestible to younger piglets and the fact that there is actually a reasonable amount of sugar in them so they could add to unnecessary calories for a porky kunekune if fed in quantity!!!
