Hot water on feed

Post by biddydog » Sun Sep 02, 2012 1:29 pm

We have two 13 week old very healthy happy pigs (castrate and gilt). They eat Allen pot belly pig pellets which we are currently warming with hot water- advice from breeder when we collected them.
It's now a bit of a pain as they are due to go into our orchard which is away from the greenhouse kettle. Can you feed them hard pot belly pig pellets? The bag doesn't mention adding water so I am presuming it would be OK but don't want to rock what is a very happy boat regarding feed.
Many thanks

I've never done that so I'd like to know why they've advised you to do this. Perhaps if they were bottle fed? But they should be eating ok by 13 weeks.

Normally before a piglet is weaned at 8 weeks it is already eating dry nuts alongside its mum. Then, after abrupt weaning, it carries on eating fine.

Thanks Simon. Yes they were both orphans so bottle fed. Life will be a lot easier now.
