Can kunekunes get 'redwater' like cows. My two girls are peeing pinkish urine. They are their usual cheeky selves but I'm very worried.

Hi Louise,

Firstly, 'redwater' in cattle is clinically known as Enzootic Haematuria, caused by bracken fern toxicity. I do not know of any mention in the literature of pigs suffering from the same.

I would advise you to call the vet out, who will probably take urine samples, in order to investigate.

Are they peeing normally? Eating ok? No evidence of pain, especially when peeing? How old are they? Any other abnormalities you have noticed?

Thanks Claire86. Will consult with the vet. They are two years old - sisters and are in great form, eating and drinking as usual. My old neighbour who knows a thing or two about pigs in general says not to worry in this case but I'll check it out anyway.

Yeah, it's best to get it checked out just in case. If they're both doing it and they're fine in the themselves, hopefully it's nothing to worry about :) Let me know the result!
