How to Feed Old Pig

Post by clovegrove » Tue Jul 09, 2019 11:55 am

I have a male (castrated) who is 12 years old. He has lost a lot of condition and weight, coat less shiny, etc. Obviously, he is older but does anyone have any suggestions on what to feed an older pig?

He is a large paddock with lots of grass and he gets carrots/apples and some protein nuts and hay.

Any suggestion would be great,

Many thanks,

it sounds like he has a great diet already. You could try a pig nut with a higher percentage protein - that might help him put on a bit more weight. Feed him these first so that he eats more before filling up on carrots. But I would also inject for worms and parasites - one of the causes of weight loss.
