Swollen cheek

Post by Harriet jay Wright » Fri Sep 12, 2014 7:49 pm

Hi, I have 2 kunekune pigs approximately 6 yrs old they are brothers and I have had them since they were 10 weeks old, they live near surrounded by horses and have are bother but grass and swine nuts, but one of them, Kevin, has become very thin over his back and his right cheek has swollen up a lot it is very solid but seems to be eating okay. I was just wondering if anybody knows of what it is and how to deal with it please! Thanks.

this is probably compacted food in the cheek due to a dental abnormality. it is treatable. i have seen several and some have been lanced, some left and some just drained. leaving is the preferable treatment but it will need a good clean out by the vet first. There was an article on this in a past newsletter as it seems to be quite common
