I have two 8month old kunekunes and think that it must be time to vaccinate against erysipelas however I'm bamboozled by the number of brands of medecine on the market. As I only have two I'm also looking for the most cost effective. Does anyone have any advice? Also would you recommend a slapshot?
Thank you!

Hi there,

I use a slapshot and buy Porcillis Ery and Parvo vaccine through my vets. This way you can ensure it has been kept refrigerated. There is much debate about the necessity for this amongst pig keepers but, from a scientific point of view, it is a live vaccine and will die if kept in warm conditions so will be at best compromised in its efficacy or at worst useless if not refrigerated all the time :( Also you will need to give an initial dose discard the open botle and then give a second dose for a fresh bottle after 4 weeks. It isn't an expensive vaccine....or at least it shouldn't be

If you use a slapshot and you have 2 pigs then a 10 dose bottle is just enough as the slapshot takes 5 to 6 ml to fill. With some of my pigs i can get away with not using a slapshot though but I think the smallest bottle you can buy is 10 doses anyway.

Good luck!
