Dry cracking skin

Post by kayre » Wed Mar 14, 2012 1:38 pm

One of my sows has recently had her first litter. Before she had them she was losing a bit of her hair on the top of her neck then after she had her piglets it has got worse. She now has no hair at all on her neck and very little from her neck to her tail but only on the top of her body. Then her skin started to crack and get very dry. I have wormed her thinking this would solve the hair loss problem but it hasnt. Any suggestions? And would pig oil help with the dry skin?

Many thanks

kunekunes tend to lose their hair from time to time. Possibly hormonal. A couple of the sows have bald patches which will grow back and then disappear again. My boar is now almost bald on his back end but it doesn't seem to bother him. Pig oil will help stop the skin cracking and keep it moist.
