Gilt weight loss

Post by littleblondie » Thu Apr 02, 2020 9:16 am

Hi, I have 3 pigs a brother and 2 sisters, they are 5 years old. They are pets only and have never been bred from.

Over the past couple of months one of my girls has started to lose weight to the point where her spine is becoming prominent. There haven't been any changes to their environment, she is eating well and acting like her normal self.

She is a bit uncomfortable on one of her hind legs occasionally but I've been putting that down to a bad hoof trimming experience with our vet, it was a bit of a wrestling match and she limped for a couple of days after he had been and on and off since then.

They are wormed.

The other 2 are a perfect weight.

Any ideas on what the problem could be? Or suggestions on what I can feed her to try and build her back up? They currently have pot bellied pig food, grazing and fruit and veg for treats.
