Porcine Papillomavirus

Post by Buster » Mon Oct 22, 2018 1:37 pm

Hello all, I'm new to keeping kunekune pigs having just rescued one young 7 month old male. Having googled the internet to try and find out what the two growths were on his back I came across a photograph which identified it as porcine papillomavirus. We were hoping to get another kunekune to keep him company. Could this be passed onto any other animal? Many thanks in advance.

This isn't something I have ever seen. If you can add a photo, that would be good so that everyone could see what you are talking about.
There are a variety of (often innocent) reasons why pigs get lumps, so I would be wary of an internet diagnosis. The best thing would be to consult a vet. The BKKPS have a couple of sessions from a leading pig vet if you are interested this weekend as part of the AGM. Full details are here.

Thank you for your reply. I'm unable to upload the photo as I'm not very techy even after following the instructions! Unfortunately, I'm unable to get to the event this weekend too.
