The Smallholder Society Show, Builth Wells Showground, 17th/18th May 2008 is holding several kunekune showing classes as well as several 'pet' pig classes too. these are fun classes for all to enjoy, including a pig race, pig with the longest tail, hairiest pig etc.!
Please everyone, make a note of this in your diaries and do try to come along with your pigs.
The showing classes at this show are particularly important as we are widely promoting the kune as a smallholders pig, therefore it's important to get the pig out there and in the showring with the other breeds.
more details will follow nearer the time

yes, i have sorted out classes and we are being featured in the catalogue, it's in the newsletter coming soon.

I have Tony York's calculation from the book we got from one of his Pig Paradise courses, I presume it is the same.
He simply says times length(from behind the ears to the root of its tail) by girth(tight to the pigs front legs) and then divide it by 12 if it is a lean pig, 11 if it is medium and 10 if it is a fat pig so L xG divide by 10/11/12 to give you an answer in pounds.
Now found it in Andy Case's "Starting with Pigs" it is slightly different - it is at the back of the book on p.79. He says LxG divide by 11/12/13.

Wendy, which day are the KK classes on? Sunday's looking better weather-wise but I don't want to miss the pigs!

Saturday afternoon. Pig classes start at 9.30 and we're last (i think).
all the pigs are indoors, including the show ring so don't worry about the weather.

The kunekunes must have been a real hit at the show at the weekend, I have had several calls about piglets with people saying they had fallen in love with them there! Well done to all pigs and owners!

Just a quick message to say how good the kks looked at the show, very well turned out!!
It was nice to meet Wendy and put a face to the name, especially after her wonderful guidance with my first litter ( the pigs not mine!).
I think anyone brave enough to take a pig into a ring with an audience watching deserves a rosette, my two would surely let me down big style so well done Wendy and Co.
