Ear Tagging

Post by misslux » Thu May 19, 2011 6:39 pm

I have been really quite confused over all the ear tagging!?
I have two sows which i bought 12months ago, they werent tagged and i wasnt given any tags. They are now 3yrs old, and so i guess they should be tagged.
On their BKKPS pedigree there is a ID/Tag number, is this the number i give to buy a replacement tag?
Any info/advice much appreciated!!

They only need to be tagged if you move them off your holding after 12months of age. If they stay on your holding they do not need to be tagged.

You should have received BKKPS ear tags that correspond to whats written on the certificate.

You could also buy normal pig ear tags and these would have your UK herd mark (AB1234).

thank you! Thats really helped. I didnt recieve any tags, the previous owner just gave me pedigree certificates. They are unlikely to move from here, so i guss they might as well stay untagged.
Also, piglets under 12months i believe dont have to be tagged, just temporaly marked, is this ok for shows??
I have a piglet i wish to take to a local show, do i need her to be tagged?
Thanks!

They need to be tagged if you are going to a show:
