Hi,
I am thinking of breeding from my registered girl. She is 9months old now and wondered what age I can put her to the boar?
The boar I am thinking of getting is also only 9months old so he may not be ready yet? I read somewhere the boar is supposed to be a year and a half? Is this right?
Thanks

the boar will probably be ready well in advance of the gilt. as long as he can reach he's ready.
you don't want to put a gilt to the boar untl she's at least 12 months.
out of interest why are you thinking of buying a boar for one gilt? he will be a very frustrated boar

hi,
thanks for your reply.
I live in Orkney and there are no other pure kunekunes up here. Would be far dearer using a stud than buying one. (due to cost of transport here etc)
I have 6 ppl that apparently would like to buy two piglets each but if I wasnt to sell them they would be reared for meat.
Would keep one castrated one t keep boar comnpany.
Its not ideal as he'll only be used once a year
