Looking for a small boar, Yorkshire area

Post by Fran » Wed Oct 08, 2008 4:33 pm

My little ginger gilt Lola is ready for the boar now that she is a year old but I am worried that my boar Henry is too big for her, she is about 18-20" tall and he is 26" tall.
Apart from the complications during mating, i.e I'm sure he could just stand over her and it looks like he would squash her, is there a problem with him making larger offspring too big for her to carry?
Has anyone any experience of such size differences?
Or has anyone a smallish boar for hire in the York area or better still to swap for a month, December or January?

I don't think that actual size of hime will make any difference to the size of her piglets at birth
i am 5'2" and mated with a man who was 6'4" and had a 5lb baby first time around :D

however, i would watch the mating and if she seems distressed take her away, although the boars don't seem to put weight onto the sows backs they seem to support most of the weight on their hind legs
