wet weather conditions

Post by Jennifer Hart » Sat Jan 02, 2016 4:31 pm

Hi there
I have 2, 2 year old kunekune pigs who are living in very wet muddy conditions in their area which is well rooted although some of their enclosure has overhanging tree cover. Although I am giving them some hay to nibble on when the weather is too wet for them to come out of their ark other than to feed I wondered whether I should be putting some straw down under the trees to cover some of the sodden mud. Or am I worrying too much? They surely are fed-up liltle piggies at the moment. Any advice would be most welcome.
Many thanks

If they have somewhere dry to go under the trees it may encourage them to play out a little as well as mopping up some of the wet mud. scattering a few carrots or apples when the rain stops will also give them a reason to get out of bed. Though when its really cold and wet they will probably prefer to remain snuggled up in bed and conserve their energy.
