Rooting - can you encourage it???

Post by Bottie » Tue Apr 30, 2013 10:13 pm

Hi there - I am new here, but hope you can help. We are wanting some pigs to clear acres of very steep land that is thickly over grown with gorse, brambles old and new, nettles and other stuff. We were keen on KK but now having read some of your threads understand that they do not always root. If they did not root is there anything we could do to encourage them? If they did root can anyone give me an idea how long 2 pigs would take to root up say 1 acre?

if they don't root you can encourage them by restricting their area - electric fence it off and 'strip ' graze it.
one acre? depends how efficient they are but they could decimate it within a month or it coul take them several months. also depends how well turned over you would like it kunes are fairly 'superficial' rooters
