My 2 pigs are now 9 weeks old and have been with me for just over a week. They are getting much tamer but are like two naughty puppies  One problem that I have is their tendancy to bite. I suspect it's just curiosity but a bite from a pig is a little more worrying than one from a similar aged ...

Spoke with my vet today and he's suggested we go for the injection. He also said that it would be a good idea to take in a faecal sample to the vets (of the pigs!!!) in about 2-3 months time, for analysis. He is hoping that we can avoid any further need to worm in the future. I'll be collecting the ...

Do kunekune's eat hay?

As kunekune's are grass eaters, I wondered why part of their diet during the winter months doesn't include hay. I have 5 pet sheep and so plenty of spare hay available - are the pigs unable to digest hay, or is it something that I could try?

Vaccinations and worming advice

My new kunekune/pot bellied cross pigs are 9 weeks old now. I contacted my vet re vaccinations and worming. He advised vacinating for erysipelas, which seems to concur with most of the info I've read here on the forum and elsewhere. Regarding the worming, he explained that he has several pot bellied...

I think my new pigs are taking the micky. I bought 2 bags of the Allen and Page pot bellied pig food for them and have begun introducing it slowly with the pig grower feed they were on. The pigs are less than impressed and just eat the growers pellet, leaving the pot bellied food behind. I thought I...

The pigs were abandoned in Scotland and rescued by the SSPCA. We heard of their plight and need for re-homing - I think there were 7 adults in all and 2 large litters!! Obviously we couldn't take them all in but had facilities to re-home a couple of them. There's a bit more info and pics of them on ...

Pot Bellied Pig Feed

After getting my two kunekune/Pot bellied pigs last Saturday, my local farm supplier has managed to get me the pot bellied pig feed (Allen and Page). I've weighed the pigs today (think the whole village heard about it!!) and they are 13 kgs - just over 2 stone and are 8 weeks old. Checked the right ...

Thanks for that. I recorded the programme and watched it last night. Thought it was really interesting and confirmed my beliefs, as a newbie pig owner, that pigs are a lot closer to the human species that we might think

They were done yesterday morning before we picked them up - I was surprised myself as I thought that a temporary mark was all that was needed but, hey, it's done now :?

Taming your pig

My two new kunekune/pot bellied pig crosses have only been with me for a day and are understandable very nervy and anxious. They're 8 weeks old. I've just been sitting in with them quietly and letting them roam freely within their pen/for now. Any advice on the best way to tame them and help them se...

Food treats

I have just got 2 kunekune/pot bellied crosses who are 8 weeks old and am keen to get them as tame as possible and comfortable around me and the family. I wondered, what treats are safe and legal to give to kunekune's. Any particular fruit or veggies, can you give bread, raisens etc. Do your pigs ge...

kunekune's arrive home

Following a 500 mile round trip, our two kunekune/pot bellied rescue pigs are home with us from the SSPCA in Scotland. They are nearly 8 weeks old and much smaller than I imagined. Here's a picture of them: http://www.animalloversweb.com/galleries/albums/Pig%20Albums/pigs_0043.jpg You can see some m...
