Re: KUNES FOR MEAT ADVICE WANTED PLEASE!

Di, do you know what the live or dead weight was for your kunes? I have 2 at the moment that were born April, 1 weighed 45kg & the other 50kg approx 3 weeks ago. I send all my other meat pigs in at 70-80kgs but wondered what weights yours are before sending them in.

Re: new pig

They are just sorting out who's in charge. I would be tempted to leave them too it & not to worry too much unless it started getting nasty, ie, really fighting, causing obvious injury THEN I would be worried for the new in pig sow. Just make sure she has somewhere warm & dry to shelter until they ac...

Re: 3 kunekune piglets

Birth notified? I see from your other post the parents aren't registered........or is this a different litter? If they are birth notified, which lines? This info may help you find them new homes. :D

With the amount of pigs (not just kunes) I have now, I have no option but to feed off the ground. When I first started with pigs though I fed all of them in troughs which saved the ground ALOT - but now all the troughs hold water. If you only have a few pigs I would say it's nice to feed them...

Personally, I would try to track down another Kune, but if your looking for a different breed, in my experiance, the Large Blacks & British Lops are just soo friendly, are good grazers - but they do still root too. The middle whites are abit 'flighty' with strangers, but when they get to know you, a...

OH....& I forgot to add.........extremly temperamental. Nice when they are in a good mood - VERY dangerous when in a bad mood (I have the war wounds to proove it & these are the sows, not my boar).

Mangalitza's are the worst rooters I have EVER owned......you would have NO grazing left for your kunekune after 24hrs of a mangalitza arriving!
Trust me - I have both (& 9 other breeds too).
You would definatly be better off with another kunekune for company!

Nothing to do with pigs........but I need your help!

Here goes - a once in a life time opportunity. Over the last few weeks, Minster FM have been taking entry's for a competition to 'Win a Wedding'. I sent an entry in with not much hope of making it to the final 5. Yesterday, at about 3.00pm, Alun took a phone call...............WE HAVE MADE IT THROUG...

I just use a brush to put pig oil on my kunes, it helps get rid of the dead skin too. I haven't had a problem with my kunes getting sunburnt with it (yet) but they all have regular access to a really muddy wallow. I would NOT go anywhere near any of my white pigs with oil. I don't use the oil very o...

I agree, The law does state anything that has been in your kitchen you can't use......even the crusts from bread loaf's (that no-one in my family eats). I get fruit & veg from local shop's (which are past the stage's of being sold) & chop it up in my shed for the pigs therefore it never see's my kit...

Mine get any fruit/veg that I can get my hands on. My Kunes LOVE banana's, apples, pinaple, carrots, swede, etc. Some will eat cabbage, brocolli, couliflour, corgettes, etc, but others won't. I read somewhere (but can't remember where) that citris fruits are bad for pigs...........can anyone confirm...
