Re: sisters fighting

i would think this is hormonal and hopefully will revert back to normal when who ever is in season is no longer in season. It is not uncommon for sows to fight when in season but it seems odd that they have managed to get along for 5 years without any bother. as long as they have a choice of sleepin...

Re: greedy pig

either put the food piles very far apart - 5-10 metres or put it in a very long line so that wherever greedy pig goes, the other pig can still get to plenty of food.

Re: Help please rearing solitary piglet

how very sad and how fantastic that you have taken it in. my first thought would be to try to find someone who could foster it on to a sow for you. Goats milk will do it well - better if you can get raw goat's milk. if you email me wendy@bartonhill.co.uk i will send you the chapter on Hand Rearing f...

Re: Escaped big...any ideas be grande!

your main concern should be that you are breaking the law! you cannot move your pig on and off your holding and onto someone elses with out a movement licence and more importantly a 21 day standstill. yes, they could fight and entire boars have been known to fight to the death you have a big respons...

Re: 1 week old piglets

this may be a stupid question but are they kunes? its just your comment about their growth rate made me think perhaps they weren't.

soil on its own should be ok :)

Re: 1 week old piglets

i would follow Di's advice and get them drinking from a tray - it is very difficult to get orphans onto solids if they are on a bottle as they will never associate eating from the ground - in real life the would copy their mum :) have they had an iron injection? if not then its very important that t...

Re: My boys always fight only this time of year ?!

probably is something to do with the springtime and hormones - i had male ferrets who my kids could cuddle - until the spring and then you couldn't unfasten the cage without getting bitten! same with rams, billy goats. i wouldn't worry too much if it is a regular thing but i would make sure you have...

Re: Pig losing weight

Hi, as the owner of a lot of oldies myself, i have noticed that their teeth deteriorate dramatically with age and they tend to eat very slowly. consequently they actually get far less food than the other pigs even though no fighting occurs. I would definitely be feeding the high protein pig food in ...
