This may sound stupid but I have seen cases before where it's been missed!
Have you checked her foot for a penetrating injury such as a drawing pin imbedded in the hoof? I know from experience, it can present as this. Even if you think the pain is in the shoulder, it's worth a quick look!

Just browsing this topic as I have a lame pig to go see on a placement tomorrow. I am a vet student, hopefully going to graduate next year, and it seems I'm not going to be your average vet as I love pigs! I have no idea where I'm going to be working yet, but if I'm near any of you guys, I'll be hap...

Yeah, it's best to get it checked out just in case. If they're both doing it and they're fine in the themselves, hopefully it's nothing to worry about :) Let me know the result!

Hi Louise, Firstly, 'redwater' in cattle is clinically known as Enzootic Haematuria, caused by bracken fern toxicity. I do not know of any mention in the literature of pigs suffering from the same. I would advise you to call the vet out, who will probably take urine samples, in order to investigate....

I have been involved with the BKKPS for a number of years now and would love to gain more experie...

Had a reply back now from my pig vet. She said "Hi Claire, No experience of this but suspect it would induce toxic signs. This Vet toxicology text says it affects most species. Mandy" The text she was referring to said as follows: "Signs: Diarrhea and vomiting occur early. Followed by excitement, dy...

Hi Dawn, This could be a caused by a number of things. Causes may include trauma of some sort, infection (in the nose or bone) or growth deformity which is only just coming to light. One possible, though highly unlikely cause, is a disease called Atropic Rhinitis. This however, would present with ot...

Hi Fran,

I've done a bit of research myself but can't find any information on the topic, so I've emailed a pig-vet I know to see if I can find out for you :)
