I have been breeding now for about 6 years and have found lately that it much more difficult to sell pigs. As you say, people phone up, ask the price and then you don't hear from them again. I will not give them away as I agree this encourages irresponsible people to take pigs. I admit that I have b...

I had a young piglet a few years ago with this and the vet said it was Marmite disease. Its a bacterial thing and causes the skin to crack. If the bacteria gets into the blood system its fatal as it was with my piglet (but it was only about 6 weeks old). Antibiotics were needed plus bathing in a sol...

So sorry. I have had the same thing today. A 6 month old piglet with erysipalas! A warning to everyone inject all piglets. I always inject piglets I am selling but this was one who would have gone for sausages. I (wrongly) assumed that as he would be going at 7 months the vaccine was not necessary. ...

Hello Martin Glad to hear your kunekunes are still being thoroughly pampered! Regarding mains water we have it running all over the place in the blue alkathene pipe. Its not buried in the ground just lays on the surface close to the fence wherever possible. This works fine and it just freezes when i...

Poor, poor pigs. I have no sympathy with Jane Croft as I feel she deserves all that's coming to her. Another fashion whim gone wrong! I would urge anyone breeding to thoroughly think through what you are going to do with the piglets before putting the sow in pig. Its always wonderful when a new litt...

Yep I've had the same and refused sales. One woman could not understand when I said I would rather make the pigs into meat! I explained that I thought a short happy life was better than a long miserable one. I will continue to do this (I know Wendy doesn't quite agree!) but at least I know the life ...

I can say quite truthfully that my kunekunes do not root. However I always tell potential purchasers that they can root. I believe it is to do with the soil. I had 2 gilts that I had bred back to go to the boar last year. The owners were laughing and saying "now see if they don't root. They have tur...

Bloodline is Jenny/Andrew. There are 3 black and white boars and one black and white gilt and one ginger and black gilt and one boar. Unfortunately only two of the black and white boars have piri piri. I also have 3 black and white gilts all with piri piri from the last litter born 1st Nov. These ar...

What a conincidence!
I have just sent off a litter notification for piglets born last week and see that the same sow and boar had a litter on exactly the same day last year!! Amazing. All available for sale if anyone is interested.

Sometimes mine 'nest' as said before, however this week the only sign I had was that at 9.30am she didn't eat all her breakfast and looked a bit uncomfortable - I can only describe it as "shall I lie down? or shall I sit up? not sure what I want to do". At 11.45am she had 6 piglets all dried off and...

Hello and welcome Amey. I think you will find Wendy Scudamore will be along soon as she rehomes a lot of kunekunes. If not give Wendy a ring - she is chairman of the Society and I am sure she will be able to help you. So glad you are going to get 2 pigs as I feel very strongly that they do need comp...
