Saw this today and wondered if you could help. Not sure where you are though.

Re: Need help! think 2 week old piglet is dying
As the vet won't come to you - can you take the piglet to the vet. Depends how far away you are. I would be inclined to try anything (antibiotics?) rather than just giving up. The trouble is most vets look on pigs as a commercial herd where cost is (possibly) more important.

Re: Pedigree Ear Tags
I understood that under 12 months old a pig could be moved with a coloured mark. That's what I have always done and entered on the movement form. Never had a problem. The only exception is if you take piglets to a show when they need eartags.

Re: Pedigree Ear Tags
I put the KK plastic ear tag in my sow because in her younger days I showed her. It came out sometime ago and so she now has no tag, I personally hate ear tags in any animal as they are constantly falling out and taking parts of the ear with them so unless absolutely necessary (showing or abbatoir) ...

Re: Pedigree Ear Tags
I tend to agree with Pandora although of course if they are going for meat then they need metal tags and not the plastic KK ones. Also I don't register them if they are going for meat.

Re: erispeilis injections
Well!!! What do you make of all this? It seems that some vets seem to be singing from the same hymn sheet. I do wonder if the manufacturer's just may be trying to sell their vaccine?

Re: erispeilis injections
Now this is very interesting. I have been told by my vet (known him for 50 year) and another younger vet that Porcillus Ery is NOT a live vaccine and although the instructions say use within 10 hours, if kept in the fridge it is OK until you have used the bottle. They further stated that they certai...

Re: Advice re breeding boar?
I keep a boar who is the softest pig on earth. However I am always aware that he is a boar and keep an eye on him when in his paddock. He has never yet shown any signs of aggression, but of course you must be aware that this can happen at any time. Archie lives happily with his wives until I separat...

Re: Are we expecting or not?
Well my sow has just given birth to 4 piglets (2 unfortunately died) and I nearly got caught out as Archie served her regularly!! Only realised she was pregnant when she started developing an udder.
With regard to milk coming in if she's not pregnant - I have no idea.
