we had a boy with a scrotal hernia. One of our two vets said to leave him, but don't leave it too late to go for meat, the other said operate, he's seen them explode before... We left ours, it looked horrendous at times, but as he got older, it looked less bad. It's like it got big, but then he grew...

Hi Di We had 15 or so piglets, we sold about 8 and the rest went into our freezer and other freezers in the area. I know it's not for everyone but I know those piggies had a very happy life which was ended in the nicest way we can do legally - local family run abbatoir. Meat-wise this batch was way ...

Digging - cockchafers...
further to our previosu threads on digging (and I'm in Cumbria, one of the "digging" locations), we have a new theory on why our KKs dig. Our KKs have started again (the weaners - our 2yo sow isnt' interested as it's too much effort to dig) - and they started at exactly the same time as the badgers ...

OT - How to keep sheep? Book Advice Wanted
Sorry, this is a bit Off Topic, but if there was anyone I knew who could help, it's you lot! Today, we've exapnded our little family - started with pigs, moved onto a small person, now onto sheep - by buying 3 sweet Ryleland lambs. Have basic feeding and keeping advice, but I was wondering if any of...

Thanks Wendy - I emailed David and he said about registering with the new owners so that's what we've done. However, we are plannign on keeping one or two of our gilts so will register them ourselves eventually and need to put the ear tags in ourselves - what sort of applicator do they need? I need ...

Ear Tags
Hi, we're just registering some of our gilts and so we'll be getting the little green eartags from David.
What sort of applicator pliers do you need for them?
Cheers

I think grass & space helps but isn't a cure. One of gilts was dreadful - we had 5 weaners, then just 2 sows on 2 acres. She's stopped doing it now, but until she was about one she would churn up so much groudn in very little time. But our other sow - never interested. So I'd say it's soil, pig, spa...

i was told that they go through their naughty teenage months - where they dig and generally be naughty. Ours did within their first year but didn't really bother in their 2nd. I think some are more prone than others - we have one who basically taught the others! Whereas our other sow has never been ...

Official Colours - gold tip?
I've just read in Petra's thread on her litter, that she has some "brown and white" piglets but is baffled as that doesn't fall under the official colours. We have a couple too. It's definitely brown and white - the other patchy ones we have being definitely black and white. It's only once they star...
