Grass nuts

I have just discovered grass nuts and have a couple of questions: 1. How much to feed ontop of their A&P pig nuts and carrots? 2. Can I mix them with the pig nuts or do they always need soaking in water first? I am soaking them and it's a bit of a pain!! Happy New Year to all KK keepers and let's ho...

Coal True or false?

Talking about pigs rooting to a retired farmer (who used to keep a couple of pigs from time to time). He swears by giving the pigs a couple of pieces of coal in their pig pen. They eat/play with them and it gives them the additional minerals they crave. I've heard of it with pregnant women but never...

A glut of courgettes

There are so many ways to cook courgettes, after a while they become very boring indeed :? . Any advice for or against feeding them to KKs??

Damsons in the Pigs' Orchard

This year is a great year for damsons. The problem is there are three damson trees in the pigs' orchard (two two-year old KKs). Should I celebrate and let them enjoy or worry about the stones and an excess of fruit.??? :(

Re: Fox kills Kune piglet

A cautionary tale indeed. We always dreaded the appearance of Mr Fox when our KKs were little. We used a broody coop hen run to protect the opening and let them have access outside at the same time.

Sorry can't be of any practical help but just hope Beryl is recovering steadily. It sounds awful.

Fox pooh

I have had my KKs for 18 months in a fairly open field and until recently have been free from any droppings except rabbit. However, for the last week there has been a daily fox pooh in their field- foul as I am sure you can imagine. I am currently removing it each day when I collect the pigs' droppi...

Dispatch and Disposal

I received my newsletter this week and WOW. Thanks to Wendy, and Richard and Polly for their very moving articles on the end of their KKs :( . I have two one year olds so hopefully I am a long way off having to deal with this issue but I found it incredibly 'useful' to prepare me for when it eventua...

Re: info for beginners

There are far more expert contributors than I but here's my two penny worth. We have had two glorious KKs for 18m and my responses are based on that Is it better to rear from a piglet, or have a mature animal who's character is settled and can be trusted? I would suggest piglets as they are utterly ...
