Turmeric

My 7 year old boy seems to be a bit stiff these days. We give our dog something called golden paste that contains water, turmeric, cold pressed coconut oil, apple cider vinegar (with the mother), ceylon cinnamon, black pepper, citric acid and potassium sorbate. Does anyone have any experience of fee...

Coughing

I noticed my three year old male kunekune coughing this morning. It was just after they'd eaten and sounded very dry (like a horn!). He's fine apart from that and eating well. Should I call the vet?

Re: Ideal Weight

Thank you very much for the advice. I shall try the 'feeling' test at the weekend but suspect that they're probably in good condition which is great. Is it normal for the female to be heavier than the male?

Ideal Weight

I have two kunekunes, one of each and recently weighed them using the LG/ method. I know it's not very accurate but wondered if they would still nevertheless be considered overweight. They are two years old; the female weighs 16st 9lbs and the male (castrate) 15st 1lbs. Grateful for any comments/fee...

Re: Nose rings?

On a similar subject; our two kunes have destroyed the pretty large area at their disposal with rooting and are now trudging around a very wet and sodden field - which brings me to the question - do pigs ever suffer from foot rot? They do have a very dry stable with very deep straw and, as Simon say...

Speedibeet in Winter

I though members might be interested to know of a substitute for grass in winter that I came across at the recommendation of a horse owner. Although my pigs are continuing to have pig nuts and veg/fruit twice a day, I've also started to give them a scoop of speedibeet which is dehydrated sugarbeet. ...

Re: Dispatch and Disposal

I would like to second that! I had no idea what might be involved. Mine are only two years old so, again, hopefully not something I'll need to be concerned with for some time.

Rooting

I have two Kunes, a gilt and a castrate. They are 9 months old and over the last couple of months have started really churning the ground up in their large field. We expected a bit of rooting but wondered if anyone knew why this has started now with such a vengence? The field looks as though it has ...

Erysipelas Vaccine

Hi I have two 8month old kunekunes and think that it must be time to vaccinate against erysipelas however I'm bamboozled by the number of brands of medecine on the market. As I only have two I'm also looking for the most cost effective. Does anyone have any advice? Also would you recommend a slapsho...

Holiday Cover

I have a lot of friends and neighbours who seem very enthusiastic about looking after my pigs (when I get them) if we're on holiday; however I'd really like to have someone else as a stand by. Does anyone know of any pig sitters in the Hunsingore area (5 miles north of Wetherby)? And if so, what's t...

Re: Sows or boars

Thank you to everyone who has joined in the debate about gilts and castrates. It has been most helpful and I'm so glad that I've joined the Society if this is typical of the response that will be generated in future about any other questions I may have.

Re: Sows or boars

Okay - you've got me there! I meant when they get a bit older, e.g. 2yrs plus. And many thanks for the info about the gate.
