Hi Bob,
I think your piglets would be absolutely fine now. It is usually very young, small or weak piglets that are taken. I suspect they would fight a fox off quite admirably now if challenged !!!

Re: Grass Consumption
Hello there, A couple of Kunekune pigs are very effective lawn mowers :D However, it is important to note that not all Kunekune will not dig on certain ground. You may find you have some and they never even scuff the surface. This is often to do with your land although there are certain Kunekune, ti...

Re: Bereaved female kunekune looking for a new companion
Hi there, Sorry to hear about your loss. I have helped a number of people in the same situation, if you find a young pig as a companion that works best. A young pig is no challenge to an older pig and so will be submissive and not fight. They will settle down and be best friends after a few days of ...

Re: Pig compatibility problem
Hello there, Pumba is behaving as many pigs in the same situation would so he is not unusual. He simply does not 'speak' pug  He will interpret some dog behaviour as potentially aggressive and vice versa this may well be made worse by being in a house setting but I cannot be sure. unfortunately...

Re: Are they ready
Hi there, With Kunekune it is very difficult to gauge a weight for slaughter as they can vary so much in type, size and body fat. Have you a condition score for them - in other words are that not overly fat!! I used to take my Berkshires at about 45kg to 55kg so they would fit into that range ...

Re: Dry skin treatment
Hi Jennie, You seem to have identified all the issues and treated accordingly and your piggies sound like they live a wonderful life. Kunekune around the age yours are do often go through a seasonal loss of hair or just randomly develop bald patches too so you may see this happen again with no obvio...

Hi there,
I can provide a trailer for you to use if you can find a vehicle with a tow bar.
I may be able to help transport but that would potentially be trickier but not impossible.

Re: Pig wanted for West Midlands Primary school
Hello there! How wonderful! A word of advice, you will find that people will only sell their pigs in pairs as pigs are herd animals and really need the company of another pig. I live in Shropshire, we also have a Regional Rep, called Jan Glover, living not to far away. Between us we should be able t...

Re: feed a recovering piglet
Hello there, So sorry to hear what you are going through. My recommendation would be to go back directly to your vet for advice on what to give to this piglet. You need to be 100% sure that whatever you do is not going to create problems. In the meantime warm water orally is vital to keep the piglet...

Re: Feeding hay
Hi there, My pigs are now eating vast quantities of hay. I leave it on by putting a bale in their bedroom and, when they are ready, they start tucking in :D With respect to feeding a mixed group then when the ground is dry it is good to scatter their feed widely as this allows feeding at different r...

Re: What should we do with a "widowed" elderly pig?
A very difficult situation for you. It is difficult to know if she will struggle on her but I suspect she will miss her sister a lot. However I can't be sure, every pig is different and some cope better thank others. If you do not wish to have the other pig put down than I would recommend you try ge...
