Boar smell

Just wondered if anyone could tell me whether a castrated pig (kune x) should smell differently to a gilt. My castrate has quite a boary smell about him and although I've never seen him try to mate or mount my girl, he bumps her side with his snout(but only when I'm in with them and I am fussing her...

That would be great if you came to Devon, that's only the next county to me I could come and see everyone. There were only 2 kunes as far as I could see at the Royal Cornwall Show this year.

New Pig Ark

Today we've built our piglets a lovely new house. I'm sure there will be some changes we need to make to it but I'm really pleased with it. We haven't moved them in yet although they have had a lovely time today out in the pig paddock watching us. The goats aren't too impressed with them though. I'l...

Hi Emmy, I was a bit disappointed when I realised that my piglets didn't like to be picked up but Pandora and Wendy are right in that your pig will eventually be too big to pick up anyway. I spend a lot of time sat on the floor with my pigs and they do come and lie across my lap for a rub and a scra...

On the ground or in a trough?

Hi I just wondered how the majority of you feed your pigs? I know it will probably depend on how many you have. We made a trough from a piece of half round guttering for ours when they first arrived but they outgrew it after about 3 weeks! I've been feeding them on the floor as its been relatively d...

Has anyone got the feed chart for the Allen and Page pot bellied pig feed to hand. I've decanted my food into dustbins and thrown the bags away. I've weighed Royston today and he weighs just under 8kg, Polly is quite a bit smaller at just over 6.5kg. They are 14 weeks old. However they both look and...

I took Royston to the local farm vet and he charged £18. He had a very quick anaesthetic, it was a mask that they put over his nose not an injection, and he was wide awake by the time I got him home about half an hour later. He was about 7 weeks old when I had him done as he wasn't castrated when I ...

Left my piggies out all night last night and they were still there this morning at 6 o'clock despite me waking up in a cold sweat because I had the most vivid dream about them walking out the front gate, I even heard them oinking!

Staying out at night

I just wondered if anyone could tell me how big my pigs should be before I can leave them out overnight. At the moment I close the door on their shed when it gets dark and I open it again between 6 and 7am. We do have quite a few foxes around. They're about 13 weeks old. They are very keen to come o...
