Thanks for your replies. Don't think a mangalitza is for me! Will keep trying to locate a kunekune close to me.

Can you suggest any other breeds that would be a good companion for her?

Thanks

hi,

thanks for your reply.

Any ideas on temperment?

The rooting puts me off a bit but saying that some kunekunes can root. Maybe be worth it so she has a friend again.

She's so friendly and placid that I wouldnt want to upset her with a grumpy pig! lol

Mangalitza as companion for my kunekune

Hi, I am looking for a companion for my year old kunekune girl. I live in the Orkney isles so not so easy to get another kunekune without alot of travelling. Some close buy is selling mangalitzas. Has anyone ever owned this breed? How do they compare to kunekunes in size, temperament? Any ideas if t...

hi, thanks for your reply. I live in Orkney and there are no other pure kunekunes up here. Would be far dearer using a stud than buying one. (due to cost of transport here etc) I have 6 ppl that apparently would like to buy two piglets each but if I wasnt to sell them they would be reared for meat. ...

Best age to breed?

Hi, I am thinking of breeding from my registered girl. She is 9months old now and wondered what age I can put her to the boar? The boar I am thinking of getting is also only 9months old so he may not be ready yet? I read somewhere the boar is supposed to be a year and a half? Is this right? Thanks :)

Yes, you should receive a pedigree for her - chase them up on that as they will just have forgotten i expect. Your boar should get on fine with a castrate but once they reach sexual maturity two entire boars will fight. I hear lots of stories from people who have paid a lot of money for kunes they ...

I have seen quite a few pedigree black kunekunes, and currently have a pedigree sow that looks like this. Obviously thats not to say this pig is a pure bred, and I would wonder why someone would keep a boar whole and not birth notify. So I'd agree with the above comments. He does look to be still a...

Out of interest, whats stopping him from lifting up the sheep hurdles? he was only in there temporarily while we were finishing redoing the fences. The photo was taken the day he arrived but we put fencing stabs in too while we were finishing so they couldnt escape! lol :) We're moving in March and...

Im still very glad I got him as its lovely seeing him so happy :) I thought of getting him castrated and getting a kunekune boar and hopefully they would get on, he w...
