Thanks for that. I will try that if he does it again. Although I am hoping that the idea I had today may work. I went into the "pen" (100 meter fence line) BEFORE I fed them. He looked at me totally confused while the girls got their cuddles. He then came closer and put his head next to my knee. I w...

I recently had to rehome a boar who came from similar conditions, only he wasn't fed at all.... I took him in with his girl after he was rescued but he started to break out and challenge the younger boar. I didn't fancy shutting him away on his own until the gilt I had earmarked for him was old enou...

Challenging boar

I have a 9 month old boar (entire) who is living with 2 gilts (9 and 10 month old). Recently he broke out of his electric fence as it failed in the snow. Don't worry about freezing water, they will eat snow... You only have to defrost the water if there is no...

I know this is an old topic, but thought I answer anyway as somebody might find it useful. Mine suddenly started rooting ALOT when I changed them over from commercial feed to barley. Common sense told me that it was the feed and they were missing something. Probably iron. So I added weaner pencils t...

I've been feeding mine (9 month old) bruised barley. They seem fine on it during the summer when only little is fed. Now winter is here they are putting on weight. I am assuming barley is richer than grass, they also exercise less. Going to reduce the barley and give them hay to see if that helps. S...
