Hi, I just took 3 poorly piglets with itchy cracking skin to the vet. He had asked me if they looked asif they had marmite on their skin over the phone so I'm thinking this could be the same thing. When we got there he said they have 'greasy pig disease' which is a bacterial skin infection caused by...

Gorgeous Baby Boars N Yorks

Is anyone looking for an entire ginger and black baby boar with 2 piris?? We are blessed with FIVE of the little cuties (or maybe 4 and a tri-colour depending how you look at it) We're planning to get them castrated soon and happy to keep a couple, but we don't need them ourselves for breeding so if...

OOh, we took our sow and litter to a show recently. I tagged the sow but not the piglets as they were only a few weeks old. I thought they didn't have to be tagged when going off the holding until 6 months old - or unless going for slaughter... was that wrong

Update - so far, not sure if its so good or not: She has made it to a week old, but her brothers and sisters are now a full twice her size! She went back in with the litter happily enough but we've been watching pretty closely and nobody has actually seen her latched on and getting milk - she gets r...

Thanks Wendy, no we don't have a heat lamp as there is no electricity nearby and I thought she'd be OK having them in her own shed in August (we brought her nearer to the house and used a heat lamp in the winter!) I'll put a hot water bottle in for her - and the kids will keep checking! Mum does hav...

Hi All, We've put Strawberry back in. She is noticably smaller thatn the others and still a bit hunched up whereas they are bumbling around like nobody's business. My 13 yr old is taking her a bottle every couple of hours. He says he has tried and tried to latch her on to one of mum's teats but she ...

vaccination question

Thank you Wendy, that is a relief. I suddenly thought I had missed something crucial - but I would certainly prefer not to vaccinate if it isn't essential. I have 2 pigs on around 2 acres of land which they only share with a couple of goats and the occasional few intruding sheep and, to my knowledge...

Vaccination Question

I think I may have left this all a bit late but ... have decided to get organised and send one pig off for sausages and his sister to a boar which was always the plan. They are both just a year old and, apart from worming, neither has had any form of medication or vaccination at all. Is this a bad t...
