We had brown and white spotty ones this year and the dark spots were obviously stripy in the sun.

We also bought ginger/brown striped pigs in the first place and we thought they were beautiful so the Kune circles can frown all they like! Janis still gets lighter in the summer.

Ours dig in their enclosure and don't dig when we let them out into the field. Our friends down the road have two who are always allowed out and they don't dig at all. So maybe space and quantity of grazing is a factor? Amanda

In regard to public liability, I used a website called simply business and arranged insurance via them with Norwich Union, they charged ?150. This is specifically for the animals and not combined in with our home or contents insurance. Hope this helps. Amanda

When we got our first pigs we were told that they had curly tails when they were NOT happy. Happily ours are mostly straight most of the time?!

We never ear tag unless they are going to the abbatoir and then we put a metal one in the night before (saves them being pulled out in scuffles) all my BKKPS ones are safely in a file with all my paperwork.

Glad there's a concensus on this. Been asked a couple of times about cutting the tusks before studding: didn't fancy the idea and over the years we've never suffered from pig bites. Chicken feet, esp cock spurs are a different matter.

Our vet is very friendly and understanding to the ways of the smallholder. He is happy to supply preloaded syringes when we only need to vaccinate a few pigs. My best advice? Ask: they can only say no & it can save you money!
