Free Piglet...

Free to good home, very small 1yr old entire boar. Has a small hernia so best suited to becoming a pet.

Must go to a new home by the end of this week, as we are moving...

Postcode: NP7 9TG. 01873 853003 if you're able to save this lovely little pig.

Advice needed - 4 week old piglets have diarrhoea

Hi all,

My 4 week old piglets have diarrhoea. It is milky white in colour. I have just started to feed them some pig creep pellets. They are all still eating and drinking and don't look poorly.

Any advice on how to get them all healthy again greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Cath

I promised myself I would be patient but I hate not knowing when the piglets will come. We were sure Cilla was in labour last night. She'd been off her food all day, only nibbling, then was very restless and had laboured breathing from about 11pm-1pm so my husband and I took it in turns to check on ...

Thanks for all the advice. We're still waiting for Cilla to pop which she looks like she might do quite literally!!

What signs do you all look for to know birth is imminent? I would like to sit with her for the birth but don't want too many sleepness nights!

Caring for newborn piglets

Hi all, I have a litter due anytime and feel pretty confident about the birth etc having farming in the blood, but wanted to get your views on caring for the piglets and mother once they're born. I have heard of some people cutting the piglets teeth (not all just incisors I think), and also giving i...

Hooray!!

Just a quick update to help other first timers. We separated the boar from the gilts and waited to reintroduce them when we thought the gilts were in season. We thought wrong, still no interest. What we should have done from the onset was wait for the gilts to tell us when they were in season!! The ...

Right, I'm going to separate them today. Fingers crossed it works.

Thanks Simon and Wendy for the advise, this forum is invaluable for first timers like me.

I'll let you know how he gets on.

His testicles have dropped and I?m reluctant to separate him as this would mean him being on his own - would this be ok? When we got him last October he seemed ok at first, but didn't seem to grow, so we wormed him and gave him extra feeds away from the other pigs. He didn't improve and seemed to go...
