Hi Caroline
Interestingly my pigs haven't dug this year (all 2 years old) I think we've had the worst of the rain, east of Carlisle, and the ground is soggy. There is time yet but here's hoping

Hi Ceejay I'm afraid, contrarary to popular belief that's what kunekunes do. I think they go through phases but I have a 1 acre field that is now so churned up they'll go into the other for a few months (I have 3 pigs) to give it a chance to recover. After a while he'll get used to it, I have! Brian...

I have 2 gilts and a castrated boar who all live together, brother and sisters from the same litter, Bella the biggest hardly has any hair on her back although the rest of her body is covered , she lost it quickly over a couple of months. I think it is growing back slowly. Monty has a small bald pac...

Biting Pigs
Hi everyone My heart goes out to Cheryl having made the decision following the biting. I placed a stream last year after our gilt bit my youngest daughter, I have tried everything but she is fine one minute then the red mist comes down. In retrospect I wished I had taken the plunge then as I am alwa...

I have 3 Gilts and 1 castrated boar, from around 4 months old they started to root really badly, through the winter they had about 1.5 acres and churned up most of it. I split the field in two around February time and seeded the area they didn't occupy, that has now recovered and the pigs are in the...

:D Just to give you an update. Peppa has now calmed herself down and we haven't had a repeat of her biting. A whippy stick was used on the end of her snout of 3 occasions when she looked like she was going to bite. Both Emma and Katie walked around with a stick in their hand for a while which detere...

Thanks Louise The problem now seems to be she (Peppa) knows I'm the boss so will not have a go at me. I took my eldest, Emma down today and Peppa started to get the 'I'm going to have a go' look. Emma stood up to her and a tap on the snout with a whipy stick really shocked her and she has been good ...

Biting Gilt
I have 4 kunekune, 3 Gilts and a castrated boar, brother and sisters living together. One of the gilts, who was a runt and hand reared has started to bite. Knee caps usually! Unfortunately she bit my 10 year old daughter and caused her quite a bit of pain. When she has done this in the past I have t...
