The vet gave a steroid injection and an antibiotic as well as vitesel as Wendy suggested. It seems to have worked as piglet is a lot better. He didn't really offer any explanation as to why just one of the piglets was ill. He was optimistic that she will make a full recovery so that is good news. :l...

:D Against all the odds the little piggley is slowly rallying.
She is breathing a lot better and is walking better as well.
I will be keeping a close eye on her over the next couple of weeks and all fingers and toes crossed!!!

Thank you for your support Di. You, more than anyone knows what it is like to nurse a sick piglet. Unfortunately the little one is worse tonight so will be getting the vet out again tomorrow. I fear the outcome will not be good. However, from 10 litters ( not all Kune's ), this will be the only casu...

Sick Piglet

I have just had a litter of piglets, 1 week old. One of the piglets started snuffling and breathing very heavily so I had the vet out on Friday. He said she may have some fluid on her lungs left over from birth or it could be an infection. He gave her a couple of injections and told me to keep an ey...

:D I agree. I have 4 KK's plus 50 or so Tamworths and I only worm, vaccinate or use medicines if I really have to. I have only ever had a worm problem once and that was quickly eradicated. My opinion is, the more unnatural things you put into living creatures, the more problems are likely to arise. ...

Litter for sale - North Somerset

:D :D We had our first litter of Kune's on Friday. A bit of a surprise as we didn't expect them to be born quite so soon! Obviously, Hamish had his way a lot earlier than expected! We have 7 available, all black and white, 4 boys and 3 girls. One boy and one girl have piris. If anyone is interested ...

Planning-HELP urgently required

Hi All, I know it's not strictly KK related, although I do have four of them, but I wondered if any of you has any knowledge or experience of planning laws. We have just lost a planning appeal to be able to stay on our land in our mobile home and will be homeless in 7 months, with the possibility of...

 I keep Tamworths and GOS pigs for meat and have never castrated any of my boars. As long as they haven't worked and go for slaughter at around 7 months there shouldn't be a problem with boar taint.
I certainly haven't ever experienced it. :)

Hi There, :D I have not bred from my Kunes .... yet. But I have had several litters from my Tamworths and GOS's.   Please don't worry. Pigs do tend to look after themselves, normally. You know your pigs. If YOU think they are uncomfortable or stressed, they probably are. Keep a close...
